Pro-E Range
The Pro-E Range from Glass Projects encompasses advanced Low Emissivity (Low-E) coated glass, engineered to significantly improve the thermal insulation performance of glazing systems. Low-E coatings are microscopically thin, virtually invisible metallic or metallic oxide layers applied to the glass surface. These coatings are designed to reflect a high percentage of long-wave infrared radiation (heat) while allowing optimal levels of visible light to pass through. This means Pro-E glass helps to keep heat inside during colder New Zealand winters and can also assist in reflecting external heat out during warmer summers, depending on the specific coating type and its placement within an Insulated Glass Unit (IGU).
Key attributes of the Pro-E Range include:
Enhanced Thermal Insulation: Dramatically reduces heat loss through the glass, leading to lower U-values and improved energy efficiency.
Improved Indoor Comfort: Helps maintain more stable and comfortable interior temperatures year-round, reducing cold spots near windows and minimising overheating.
Reduced Condensation: By keeping the interior glass surface warmer, Pro-E glass can significantly reduce the occurrence of internal condensation.
UV Radiation Filtering: Many Low-E coatings also offer a degree of ultraviolet (UV) radiation filtering, helping to protect interior furnishings, fabrics, and artwork from fading.
Energy Savings: Contributes to lower heating and cooling costs by reducing the energy required to maintain comfortable indoor environments.
Versatility: The Pro-E Range includes various types of Low-E coatings (e.g., pyrolytic/hard-coat and sputtered/soft-coat) with differing performance characteristics, suitable for a wide range of applications and often optimised for use within Pro Comfort Insulated Glass Units.
Glass Projects specifies the Pro-E Range primarily for applications where superior thermal performance and energy efficiency are paramount. It is a cornerstone technology for modern, high-performance glazing in New Zealand.
Insulated Glass Units (IGUs) - Pro Comfort: Low-E coatings are most effective when incorporated into IGUs. Glass Projects almost exclusively uses Pro-E glass within its Pro Comfort IGU range to maximise thermal insulation.
Windows & Doors: Essential for energy-efficient windows and doors in both residential and commercial buildings, helping to meet or exceed building code requirements.
Glazed Facades & Curtain Walls: Critical for controlling heat loss and gain in large glazed areas, contributing significantly to the overall energy performance of commercial buildings.
Skylights & Overhead Glazing: Helps to manage heat transfer through roof glazing, preventing excessive heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer.
Projects Targeting High Energy Performance: Indispensable for buildings aiming for Green Star ratings, Passive House certification, or compliance with stringent energy efficiency standards.
Glass Projects’ expertise lies in selecting the optimal Pro-E coating and its correct surface placement within an IGU assembly to achieve the desired balance of thermal insulation (U-value), solar heat gain control (SHGC), and visible light transmission (VLT) for each specific project.
