Laminated Glass

Pro Lam

Product Details

Pro Lam laminated safety glass from Glass Projects is a high-performance glazing solution, engineered by bonding two or more lites of glass together with a durable, high-performance Polyvinyl Butyral (PVB) interlayer. This composite construction means that if the glass is broken, the interlayer adheres to the glass fragments, keeping them in place and significantly reducing the risk of injury from sharp edges or falling shards. This inherent safety characteristic makes Pro Lam an essential material for a wide array of architectural applications throughout New Zealand.

Key attributes of Pro Lam include:

  • Enhanced Safety: Provides superior impact resistance and post-breakage glass retention, crucial for human safety applications.

  • Increased Security: Offers greater resistance to manual attack and forced entry compared to ordinary annealed glass, providing an effective deterrent.

  • UV Radiation Filtering: The PVB interlayer typically blocks over 99% of harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation, helping to protect interior furnishings, artwork, and occupants from UV degradation and exposure.

  • Acoustic Insulation: The interlayer provides a dampening effect on sound transmission, contributing to a quieter internal environment, although for specialised acoustic requirements, our Sound Pro range offers enhanced performance.

  • Versatility: Pro Lam can be manufactured using various glass types, including clear, tinted (Pro Tint), low iron (Pro Ultra Clear), or Low-E (Pro-E Range) glass, allowing for tailored aesthetic and energy performance outcomes.

Glass Projects specifies and installs Pro Lam across a diverse range of applications where safety, security, or specific performance attributes are paramount. Its robust nature makes it ideal for:

  • Overhead Glazing: Essential for glazed roofs, canopies, and skylights, ensuring any breakage is contained.

  • Glazed Balustrades: Provides critical safety barriers in both internal and external locations, meeting stringent load and impact requirements when appropriately designed.

  • Full-Height Glazing & Facades: Specified for shopfronts, curtain walls, and large glazed areas at ground level or where human impact is a risk.

  • Internal Partitions & Doors: Creates safe and functional divisions in commercial and high-end residential spaces, often contributing to acoustic comfort.

  • Frameless Windows & Doors: Can be incorporated into frameless assemblies where the structural integrity and safety of laminated glass are beneficial.

  • Specialist Applications: Suitable for display cases, floor glazing (with appropriate engineering), and areas requiring enhanced security.

Glass Projects’ design and installation expertise ensures Pro Lam is specified to the correct thickness and composition for each unique project, considering factors such as panel size, wind loads, impact resistance, and compliance with New Zealand building standards.
